THERAPIST STATEMENT

I have had the fortune of working in a variety of settings over the years, from clinical settings and spas, to running two successful private practices in both Utah and Washington. My clientele is varied, from high performance athletes to stay at home moms, each with a desire to tend to their individual needs.

Whether those needs are untangling bound up musculature or finding a peaceful center amidst the wilds of our modern world, I employ a specialized approach to massage and bodywork that I have developed over many years. I offer my clients an opportunity to experience various therapeutic modalities in a single session, a perfect blend of harmony created specifically for their individual needs.

We are greater than the sum of our parts. We are whole beings that cycle and change just as the seasons do. As our needs change so does the style and type of healing-work we require.

Massage and bodywork isn’t a quick fix. It is cumulative. The more regularly you receive work, the better you will feel. Our bodies are an amazing machine and just like a vehicle, it needs maintenance in order to keep you living your life optimally!

I look forward to working in partnership with you on this wild ride!

Dynamic Body Therapies

Massage therapy has become an umbrella term for a variety soft tissue manipulation and bodywork techniques.

These may include: Myofascial Release, Trigger Point Therapy, Cranial Sacral Therapy, Hot/ Cold Stone Therapy, Bamboo Rollers, Gua Sha, Cupping, Structural Integration techniques, Passive/ Active Stretching/ Range of Motion, Kinesiology taping, Breathwork and Hot towel applications.

Many of these techniques are incorporated into each session depending on the current/ ongoing needs of the client.

Cupping & Gua Sha Therapy

I incorporate 2 bodywork modalities based on Chinese Medicine origins called Cupping (myofascial decompression) and Gua Sha (scraping). Both may produce a temporary discoloration to the skin known as petechiae which appears like speckled bruising in areas of stagnation (energy and blood flow impairment). Markings from these treatments intensify within 72hours of treatment and will fade gradually within the following days. Depending on the affected area, I may use one or both of these modalities.

Benefits of Cupping & Gua Sha:

  • Increases circulation and blood flow and stimulates lymphtic system to the area being treated.

  • Improves range of motion by loosening the myofascia around the joint articulation.

  • Stimulates the mobility of connective tissues such as fascia.

  • Breaks down scar tissue and eliminates trigger points and adhesions within the myofascia.

  • Provides relaxation by down regulating the nervous system thus providing pain relief in soft tissues.

  • Increases Range of Motion of a joint(s) by loosing the myofascia around the articulation.

Post Treatment Self Care Tips:

  • It is advised not to expose the treated area to direct sunlight or extreme temperatures until marks begin to fade. The skin is somewhat sensitive post treatment for up to 1 week.

  • The treated area may feel hot or itchy. This is a normal sensation as the myofascia heals. I recommend a liniment balm such as Tiger Balm or a diluted application of essentials oils like Wintergreen, Peppermint or Lavender. Ask me for a custom oil roller made in studio!

  • It is normal to feel somewhat fatigued after a cupping or Gua Sha treatment. Go easy, rest and drink a couple extra glasses of water to further expel the release of metabolic waste from the tissues.

Cranial Sacral Therapy

CST is a gentle, non invasive form of bodywork known to alleviate restrictions and pain in the myofascial system. By using a gentle, hands-on touch, primarily on the bones of the skull and sacrum. CST aids the body’s natural healing abilities and regulation of cerebrospinal fluid, by releasing muscular tension, pain and downregulating the nervous system and bringing it back into a state of balance.

This form of therapy is highly effective for children and adults who may suffer from nervous system disorders, ADD/ ADHD, TMJD, Fibromyalgia, migraines & headaches, neck/back pain, insomnia, chronic fatigue, IBS/ digestive disorders and more.

This therapy is not advised for those who may suffer from:

  • Acute stroke

  • Aneurysm

  • Hemorrhage

  • CSF leak

  • Spina bifida

  • Skull fracture
